Obituaries: Harold L. "Harry" Wahl, Former Wales Assessor |
| |
Harold L. “Harry” Wahl, a retired senior electrical planner for Niagara Mohawk and assessor for the Town of Wales, died Friday in his home in South Wales. He was 70.
Born in Buffalo, he attended Fourteen Holy Helpers Elementary School, attended Bishop Timon High School for two years and graduated from West Seneca High School in 1959. He attended the University of Buffalo, then earned a degree in electrical mechanical engineering in 1962 from Erie County Technical Institute, now Erie Community College.
Mr. Wahl joined Niagara Mohawk in 1961 and advanced from the mailroom to payroll clerk to draftsman before becoming senior electrical planner. He was responsible for planning much of the power grid for the towns of Amherst and Clarence during their heavy population growth years. He retired in 1999. For the past four years, he was a senior designer for TRC Solutions.
He served as an assessor for the Town of Wales since 1996 and was a member of the New York State Assessors Association.
He was president of the PTO of Wales Woodchuck Elementary School in the Iroquois Central School District during the 1980s and was a youth soccer coach for four years.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Joyce Maria Grandinetti; a son, Harold V.; and a daughter, Katherine M.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a. m. Wednesday in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 Oakwood Ave., East Aurora.
