12829 Big Tree Rd., East Aurora, NY 14052 (716) 652-1380
This is a 489-acre County park in Towns of Aurora and Wales. It was acquired by Erie County in 1925 and lies about 20 miles east of the City of Buffalo. The park is a popular site for hiking and cross country skiing. There is also a County Parks greenhouse and nursery located within the park.
- Hunters Creek County Wilderness
There are two entrances to this largely-unknown 760-acre park with spectacular views and terrain. One is off of Hunters Creek Road, just south of Strykersville Road; the other is on Centerline Road approximately 1/4 mile east of the intersection of Vermont Hill Road. A little-known fact outside of Wales is that the official name of this property is the Sgt. Mark Rademacher Park, re-named in 1983 to honor this U.S. Army Ranger's ultimate sacrifice.
- Kenneglen Scenic and Nature Preserve
11661 Old Strykersville Rd., East Aurora, NY 14052
The Western New York Land Conservancy, the Friends of Kenneglenn, and the Trust for Public Land announced on December 15, 2000 the purchase of the Kenneglenn estate in the Town of Wales. The 130-acre property is now permanently protected as a nature preserve. The Kenneglenn preserve is an ecological, scenic, and historic treasure. Abutting the spectacular 150-foot Hunter's Creek gorge, the estate features a wide diversity of landscapes including wetlands, forest and beautiful views of the gently rolling hills characteristic of southern Erie County.
